The Lyric Theatre, Belfast will make their debut visit to Roscommon Arts centre next Friday 25th June for their performance of Molière's classic The Miser, a tale of forbidden romance, hidden treasure and the local of one man for his money. In this hilarious new adaptation of Molière's classic comedy The Miser, Scottish actor Andy Gray, best known for his role in television comedy series Rab C Nesbitt, will play the title role in this period costume drama, which promises matchmakers, buried treasure, forbidden romance and missing Lords in a spiral of outrageous, comic confusion.

This production has recently begun a nationwide tour after a hugely successful run in Belfast, Just before rehearsals began last April, director Dan Gordon commented: "Directing this play will be fantastic fun. Having a great ensemble company is half the battle but the fact that Molière was such a showman is the other. In his time he incorporated action, illusion, stand-up, comedy, song and, of course, the audience. That was where he was coming from and that's where I'll be trying to go."

When the cast and crew originally got together for rehearsals for the first time, the moment was captured on video. The first read through is an opportunity for actors to come together with director and stage Mmanagement to read through the script as a team. It marks the beginning of an intensive run of rehearsals on the lead up to opening night. For the first time the Lyric has taken footage of the first read through of The Miser. Although written in and set in the 17th century, The Miser resonates loudly with audiences today, and tells the story of a wealthy but stingy man, Harpingon. When old widower Harpingon decides to marry off his children against their will, he sets the entire family scheming to steal his fortune. With forbidden romance in the air and the family treasure buried in the backyard, it's a race to see who will come out on top. Can Harpingon stay a stride ahead and hang onto his beloved hoard-getting himself a hot young bride to boot? Or will his kids succeed in foiling his selfish plans?

Audiences beware as you may see men in high heels and handsome young men wrestling! Counting the pennies has never been so much fun! Age guidance is recommended for 12 years and over. More information and booking for this hilarious show through Roscommon Arts Centre's box office on 090 6625824.
