Roscommon Arts Centre Announces Autumn 2012 Events

Roscommon Arts Centre recently published the new programme covering events from September right through until December 2012. This autumn the Arts Centre has a packed programme covering everything from Theatre, Visual Art, Music, Literature, Comedy, Film, Dance and classes to ensure that there is something to keep everyone entertained heading into the long winter nights. Details of a full listings of events can be seen at www.roscommonarstcentre.ie, by picking up a Programme of Events at the arts centre or by calling 090 6625824.

Music lovers will be delighted to hear of the return of The Fureys and Davey Arthur (Saturday 28th September) and Tommy Fleming (Saturday 13th October). A wonderful pre-Christmas party night by ABBA Forever will have you dancing in the aisles on Friday 7th December and the ‘Man with the Golden Trumpet’ Johnny Carroll will play for one night only on Saturday 8th December. Classical music lovers are in for a treat with a performance by the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet accompanied by the world famous violinist Nobuko Imai on Tuesday 27th November. Caoimhín O’Raghallaigh and friends will host a trad session on Saturday 3rd November.

Bearing in mind that the country is filled with doom and gloom at the moment the arts centre brings plenty of laughs your way with three super comedians and the height fo their game: Des Bishop performs on Thursday 8th November followed by family favourite Conal Gallen on Friday 9th November. Neil Delamere makes a welcome return after his sold out gig last year with his new show start from Edinburgh on Saturday 1st December. Star Trekkers can look forward to the hilarious One-Man Star Wars Trilogy on Tuesday 16th October, giving you a fast-paced, side-splitting evening of the story of Star Wars condensed into one hilarious hour. The Nualas come to the Arts Centre for ‘One Night of Dignity’ a brand new comedy-music show by this hilarious trio on Friday 5th October.

Roscommon’s theatre goers have plenty to look forward to with performances by some of the country’s best professional companies and actors over the autumn season. Geraldine Plunkett (Glenroe’s Mary) stars in Woman and Scarecrow on Tuesday 25th September. Mary McEvoy, another Glenroe star, features in Fruitcake on Tuesday 9th October. Roscommon native Ben Mulhern stars in Eden from Thursday 15th – Saturday 17th November. Nomad Theatre Network will once again team up with the great Livin’ Dred Theatre Company for a production of Ride On by Cavan Seamus O’Rourke on Friday 14th & Saturday 15th December. For anyone who has seen Victor’s Dung this is one not to be missed.

The National Ballet of Ireland will present Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker on Friday 2nd November – sure to be a treat with both younger and older ballet enthusiasts!

Conscious of the economic downturn Roscommon Arts Centre also offers a number of free events including Visual Art Tours & Workshops, the Filmed Educational Screenings for secondary schools and this October will offer schools around the county the opportunity to host an arts facilitator as part of the Artist in Schools Residency Programme. Entrance into the Visual Art gallery is always free. For more details on all upcoming events including a new season of classes at Roscommon Arts Centre check out www.roscommonartscentre.ie or alternatively call the box office on 090 6625824 to request your free Programme of Events.
