Happy New Year Rochester theatre-goers! It is now officially 2019, and with it a new year full of wonderful theatrical productions of all varieties on stages large-and-small across the 585. We're fortunate to live in a city with some of the most diverse and eclectic arts organizations in New York State, so I thought I'd take a minute to highlight some of the productions I'm most excited about in 2019. A couple caveats: #1, the typical theatre season runs September(ish)-June(ish), and most theatre companies haven't announced their 2019-2020 seasons yet, so this article really only encompasses the first half of 2019; and #2, my theatrical tastes and interests aren't necessarily representative of the wider theatre-going community, so this list may not reflect Rochester's most anticipated or talked-about shows on the horizon (notice RBTL's upcoming run of Hamilton didn't make the cut, not for lack of worthiness). That being said, enjoy, and as always your thoughts and feedback are welcome!

When people say dreams don't come true, tell them about Rudy. CineConcerts announces a once-in-a-lifetime live concert event: the 25th anniversary celebration of Rudy In Concert, live at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on March 30, 2019. Conducted by Justin Freer, the 80-piece Hollywood Chamber Orchestra will perform Oscar? and Emmy?-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith's complete score live while the entire film is projected on a massive 40-foot HD screen. This 1993 American biographical sports film's first live concert premiere will help raise funds for The University of Notre Dame and regional Southern California high schools with support from The CineConcerts Foundation. Special guests including Sean Astin, Rudy Ruettiger, director David Anspaugh, writer Angelo Pizzo, producer Cary Woods and more will take part in a pre-show on-stage panel to discuss the film, music, and the magic of the film and story 25 years later.  Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov 16 at 10A PST at AXS.COM.

Now more than ever, the inspiration of the true life story of Rudy Ruettiger is needed to combat the sadness, tragedy and overwhelming horror of current events. The movie made about his triumphs against all the odds is celebrating its 25th anniversary with two special showings. Fathom Events' celebration of the classic 'Rudy' starring Sean Astin is returning to theaters nationwide for two days only, Aug. 28 and Sept. 2.

FONT 2017 is a vibrant and innovative mix of new works by some of the most exciting playwrights from across the country and around the corner and is part of Geva's ongoing commitment to developing and producing new work for the American theatre.

Irish Stage Company's inaugural production brings Marie Jones' multi-award winning worldwide hit STONES IN HIS POCKETS to Toronto's Alumnae Studio Theatre, tonight, Nov. 26th - Dec.12th 2015.

 In their fortieth anniversary season, the Toronto Irish Players present their first production of a work by the witty Oscar Wilde: the 1895 comedic gem, An Ideal Husband.

The Irish Players of Rochester, a program of the Rochester Community Players, will be presenting an Irish ghost story for today, Shining City by Conor McPherson. Seven performances will be staged at MuCCC Theater, 142 Atlantic Avenue, Rochester.
